Velcro Felt Circles Peeling Off. For whatever reason, BMW uses velcro to attach the carpet floor mats to the carpet. After just 4 months of use, the 2 round felt pieces on the bottom of the floor mats have peeled off. When I called the dealer about it he said "unfortunately it's a common problem, just come in and we'll replace them".

Has anyone else noticed this? I'm wondering my BMW doesn't use the hole and hook method that most other cars use, especially in light of Toyota's recent accelerator issues tied to sliding floor mats. Yes, bad velcro adhesive on cheap floormats I will bitch about this issue on my next service.

It doesn't seem like it would have cost them any more to put holes in the floor mat and replace the velcro circles in the carpet with hooks. Everyone else does it this way. Coming up on 2 years for my F30 , no floormat issues. I had a look at the floor mats in the loaner i that I have from the dealer, and the velocro dots which are huge are: Tied or strapped to the floor kinda like a cable tie kinda thing?

Stuck to the floor mat section, and then covered with like a plastic kinda film and stitched. They aren't coming off in a hurry. The same machine took the embroidered "TL badges" off my Acura floor mats in about 18 months. Originally Posted by feng. Originally Posted by LMK5. Called the dealer, new set was ordered and replaced. I just looked at my new car's mats just delivered today and they're different again Can take a photo if anyone is interested. Dealer gave me two sets from the get go. Have one to get dirty and one to replace for when we have company riding with us. I bought the mats after and the glue for the felt pad is weak. I have one pad that has separated.

It's not a huge issue but when I pull them out to clean, I forget and get glue all on my fingers. The actual mat I'm happy with though. Just ask Toyota what happens when you underestimate the importance of floor mats! Thankfully, I'm not driving a Toyota. I've been driving for over 50 years now and not once, not ever have I had a "loose" floor mat cause me any kind of problem. I suppose it's a matter of having mastered how to operate a motor vehicle - not everyone is capable. Is anyone else's like mine?

Pull up the mat and there's a circle of velcro on plastic. Twist the plastic 90 degrees either direction and the plastic should come out of the floor.

I'd suggest being a little more careful when pulling them out for cleaning, as this is when all that stress is going to potentially start a tear between the velcro and the mat.
