    Jaguar Mark IX - Wikipedia

The car was recently mechanically refreshed in preparation for an intended trek across North America, with an extensive inspection of each system on being performed to ensure reliability for the trip. The distributor, plugs, coil, and ignition wires were replaced, and two new fuel pumps were installed along with a stainless exhaust system. Cosmetics have been left untouched by the seller, who notes the older repaint is showing its age. The interior is in good shape with fully functioning electronics and lights, and the car is said to run well.

The body looks straight and is said to retain its original sheet metal with no evidence of any accident damage or repair work. The seller reports that the older white repaint was performed by a previous owner and shows a modest amount of surface rust in three small areas.

The car has only been driven in the summer under current ownership, and was stored inside a dry garage during the Canadian winter. Chrome brightwork is in good condition with no major dents or oxidation present, although a few small areas of minor pitting can be seen on the chrome side strips per the seller. The glass is crack free with normal wear apparent, and all of the lights are operating correctly. The MK IX is equipped with a torsion bar independent suspension up front and a leaf-sprung live axle in the rear.

The car is said to have a soft and comfortable ride with the leaf springs having considerable strength left. The recent purchase of new radial tires is said to have made the driving experience much more enjoyable as they replaced older bias-ply tires that were on the car when it was shipped to the seller. The new tires are fitted to stock steel wheels with chrome hubcaps that are in serviceable condition.

Some modest scoring was discovered inside the cylinders, so each one was gently honed before being reassembled with new brake pads. The system was bled and filled with fresh brake fluid, and they are now said to function well. The interior has not been restored and features burgundy leather bench seats and French-polished burled wood trim that are showing appropriate wear for their age. The seats are soft after being routinely treated with leather conditioner, and flaws are limited to two small segments of seam that require restitching.

The rear passenger compartment has a wood fascia with two drop-down tables and an octagonal clock. In addition, the front and rear seats have hidden arm rests that can be pulled down from the seat back, and the front doors have compartments for a tool kit and accessories.

All of the windows wind up and down easily, with the correct rear quarter-light windows opening on sliding hinges. The original burgundy carpets show obvious wear and the headliner has two small perforations at the rear. The manually-operated sunroof opens as it should and is said to have no leaks. The instrument panel is complete with all of the gauges and switchgear said to be in good working order. Some separation can be seen between the dash top and panel.

The engine was thoroughly gone over by the seller with a compression test showing good results on all cylinders. The plugs were replaced with new Champion N5 units, a new electronic distributor was installed inside the original Bakelite body, and new matching coil and ignition wires were added. All of the hoses were inspected with any worn items being replaced, and two new SU-style fuel pumps serve each of the fuel tanks hidden in the sides of the trunk.

The exhaust manifolds are said to be in good shape, and a new stainless steel exhaust system with twin pipes has been fitted. Additionally, the seller has re-engineered the windscreen washer mechanism with new routing for the hoses, and has carefully hidden a modern in-line pump beside the original Wipac plastic bottle.
