  • Feb 20, I recently got the check engine light which registered a P Fuel Pressure Sensor warning. I did my due diligence, but now am concerned.

Jul 21, It is just a P the straight up bad circuit, not the pressure high, low FWD & AWD Volvos · XC90 ( - ); Experience with a P?.

FACT! Volvo is a Swedish automotive company. The name of the concern comes from the Latin language "Volv" and translates as "spinning", "rolling".

The code applies to all manufacturers such as Volvo, Ford, GMC, VW, etc. This code is strictly concerned about the incoming signal from the fuel rail pressure.

Troubleshooting steps may vary depending upon manufacturer, type of fuel rail pressure system, and type of fuel rail pressure sensor and wire colors. The CEL went off for a whole 2 weeks if that and now it is back on. Your issue may be a known issue with a known fix put out by the manufacturer and can save you time and money during diagnosis. I pulled the looming off of the wires and they arent burned through, from the bit of wire that i can see. Is there anything i should check first off? Is there a way to pull the wire from the connector and check it? Im going to check the connector in a little bit to be sure the pins are still intact. Im at a loss now and dont know where to go from here. I appreciate any help or advise you can give me.

Points 1,, Level And I imagine if the fuel isn't making it up to the rail, it could sense a low pressure situation in the rail. Points 8,, Level When you put the sensor on , did you disconnect the battery so the car would be able to learn the new parameters with the new sensor? P is a voltage reference code. It's very important to address ANY other codes that have ever been present.

Are there ANY other codes that you've seen? Does this code set during a Key On Engine Off self test? Key On Engine Running? What are you using to check your codes? As far as removing the wires from the connector, yes it can be done.

Using a very small pick or a paper clip that has been straightened and the end flattened to a blade you can carefully pry back the plastic retaining finger in the connector and remove the wire and pin from the back of the connector. Your Barometric pressure sensor, fuel pressure sensor, throttle position and fuel tank pressure are all on the same circuit that the code identifies as "bad".

There are three wires to the FRP. The yellow wire is your VREF. This should be 5v all the time as long as the key is on. Unplugged or plugged in.

Keep in mind you will have to carefully backprobe the connector to check the voltage with the connector plugged into the sensor. This should be around 2. The voltage on this wire is what the PCM translates to fuel pressure. No matter how high or low your physical fuel pressure is, this wire should never have less than. You should find 5v on this wire with the connector disconnected.

The VREF is basically a buffered power supplied by the computer and this signal return is basically a buffered ground supplied by the computer. There should be 0v on this wire disconnected and less than. To check this wire you can also backprobe it and jump it to ground without having any adverse effect on the operation. If you are truly loosing VREF at the computer you would have similar codes for the above mentioned sensors.

Tell me a bit more about when the code sets, how you are testing it, what other codes you may have and any driveability symptoms you have when the light comes on. I'll do some digging on alternative diagnostics for a P Have you had a fuel pressure gauge on the car? I would have done that before buying a sensor. Points 24,, Level I know the focus is weird that way.
