Retrieve a quote Insurance enquiries One of the latest new models to be released by Japanese car manufacturer Honda is the all-new fourth generation Integra range for With sporty, rakish styling and good performance, the Integra has been a popular car in Australia since the first model was released in Appealing to the true driving enthusiast, the Type R offered an appreciably more potent engine, upgraded brakes and sports suspension that delivered sharp handling.

The Integra range consists of just two models. The Integra is powered by a new larger capacity 2. None of the prices quoted above include dealer charges or on road costs. The engine fitted to the Type R is the same capacity as the entry Integra; however, the compression ratio has been increased from 9. The Type R engine requires the use of premium unleaded petrol to deliver a lofty kW of power at rpm and a useful Nm of torque at rpm.

Some of the standard features fitted to the Type R include power steering, 16 inch alloy wheels space saver spare , front and rear spoilers, remote central locking, engine immobiliser, power windows, four speaker CD tuner, Recaro sports front seats, Momo steering wheel, aluminium pedals and gearshift knob and tilt adjustable steering.

The Integra is characterised by a completely new body structure that gives the Integra distinct new styling, in addition to offering improved levels of safety for occupants. The body is significantly stronger than the previous Integra and features a more rigid passenger compartment. Front and rear crumple zones are incorporated into the new body structure. To further improve passenger safety, Honda has equipped the Type R with dual front airbags, ABS brakes and front seatbelt pretensioners as standard fitment.

Inside the new Integra the look is both purposeful and bold. The race-style Recaro bucket seats dominate the interior of the Type R with their high side bolsters and bright coloured trim. The Recaro seats provide excellent lateral support for spirited driving, although larger occupants may find them uncomfortably tight for extended periods.

Head and leg room for front seat passengers is quite good. The rear seat, on the other hand, is not really suitable for adults as both the leg and head room are too restrictive. The new instrument cluster is modern looking and very functional. All the instruments are clearly legible and the controls are positioned in order to make them easy to operate. For such a compact design of vehicle, the rear boot space is quite accommodating and features a screen that is attached to the rear hatch to conceal any items you may be carrying.

The spring and damping rates of the Type R are definitely on the firm side. While this set-up provides very responsive and accurate handling for the enthusiast driver, those people who regularly commute on rough or broken surfaces may find the ride a little too harsh. Once again Honda has delivered a naturally aspirated engine that produces comparable power to many turbocharged engines of similar capacity.

The engine offers enough torque to be driven at relatively low revs with a minimum of fuss; however, once you explore the upper rev limits you realise the engine delivers an exceptional level of performance. The close ratio six speed gearbox is a delight to use as it has a very short throw and a precise action.

The ABS assisted four wheel disc brakes provide good stopping power and excellent resistance to fade. The Integra Type R is still very much a sporting vehicle that will appeal to the driving enthusiast.
